The German geographer and cartographer Johann Baptist Homann (1664-1724) first published his main work in 1716, which would make him famous throughout Europe, "The Great Atlas of the World", which underwent 24 editions until the First World War. This copy was printed in 1723. In the upper left corner is a cartouche decorated with mythological elements that includes the title of the map, surmounted by an eagle holding a sword in its claws. Copper engraving manually colored after printing.
