The military war order "Michael the Brave" is the highest military war distinction of Romania, instituted by King Ferdinand through the High Decree No. 2968 of September 26, 1916 and ratified by High Decree No. 3249 on December 21 of the same year. The order was intended to reward "the exceptional deeds of war by officers who distinguished themselves in the face of the enemy".
