DRĂGUȚ, Vasile, "Nicolae Dărăscu", Meridiane Publishing House, Bucharest, 1966.

oil on cardboard, 46 x 59 cm, 46 × 59 cm, signed bottom left, with pencil, "N. Dărăscu"

Dărăscu's sea is either nostalgic, either meditative, either buoyant. The reception of the landscape is transposed into images of harbours and seaside towns, or of the quivering of ships and boats that come and go. Dărăscu paints using short and quick brush strokes, he paints space and light, he uses warm tones and emphasizes the represented shades. His creation bears a dominant chromatic, consisting of blue, green, red and yellow. We also find clarity, but also suggestion; the ideatic reproduction of nature and its encounter with architectural elements. The horizon loses part of its Academist meanings, and becomes suggestively limited, by using different shades of blue in the illustration of the sky and the sea.
