Research information

The work documents the temporary public installation completed on September 10, 1976, Christo and Jeanne-Claude’s “Running Fence.” It is a 18-foot-tall, white textile fence that stretches 24.4 miles (39.4 km) north from San Francisco to Bodega Bay, following the hills of Sonoma County and Marin County. The project was completed after 42 months of preparation and public consultation. It is constructed from 200,000 square feet (200,000 m2) of white nylon fabric attached to 2,050 steel poles.
