Summer Auction #15/2026

The Summer Auction brings together leading names of Bulgarian modern and contemporary art, in a selection conceived to reflect the dialogue between the great masters of Bulgarian modernism and the powerful expressions of postwar and contemporary painting. The sale presents museum-quality works and monumental compositions, rarely seen on the art market, by some of the most important Bulgarian artists of the twentieth century. At the centre of the auction stands Jaroslav Veshin’s monumental composition Before the Wedding (1896),, in which scenes of rural life acquire remarkable narrative force and scale. The auction further includes an imposing large-scale artwork by Georges Papazoff from the cycle The Wrestlers (1956), created during the artist’s mature period and emblematic of his expressive modernist language. The selection is complemented by artworks by Boris Georgiev, Bencho Obreshkov and David Peretz, alongside a particularly strong presence of contemporary Bulgarian art through paintings by Dimitar Kirov, Genko Genkov, Georgi Baev, Svetlin Rusev, and Stoyan Tsanev, artists who defined the major directions of Bulgarian painting in the second half of the twentieth century.
