Starting with the 1920s, Dărăscu’s works start to feature flowers in still life scenes, usually autumn flowers: youth-and-ages, chrysanthemums, roses. Placed in mugs, in the first phase, accompanied by other objects, such as books, lamps, fruit bowls or other props relevant to plastic interrogation. The chromatic range does not stray from the one that had also predominated the landscape works in the beginning, with red and blue still reigning supreme. One does however observe the influence of conquests from vast trips. The shimmering of light found in Balchik or the Delta applies pearly whites on the flowers, valued by contrast with the following one, in pink or pale yellow. His bouquets are always rich, seem to erupt from the vase they are in, overflowing towards the beholder. The choice of autumn flowers, especially field flowers, supports the feeling of crowdedness, as these flowers are structurally rich. For Dărăscu, the flowers acquire the same material consistency he sought to grant to all his works, that concern for landscape materiality. For Dărăscu, the bouquets of flowers do not require a gentle impressionistic rendering, which would have provided him with the chance of ample subjective digressions. They are subject to the same autonomous manners implied by the motif. His vision is close to that of Petrașcu, whose static nature scenes seem mineralised, in his case also due to an abundance of paste. The stillness of Dărăscu’s flowers does not imply a calcification in time, but rather the ephemeral moment when such have revealed their sap with maximum potency. The concern for light is related to the one for colour. It does not decompose, but rather iridises the petals, highlighting the hidden tones.
