Nayden Petkov was born on May 16, 1918, in the village of Vidrare, Sofia region. In 1942, he graduated from the Art Academy, specializing in painting in the class of Prof. Nikola Ganushev. With a palette as diverse as his works, the artist invites the viewer on a journey through his canvases, on which colors dance and forms interweave in a symphony of visual storytelling. Through his art, Petkov challenges perceptions, celebrating diversity and inviting us to see the beauty in the ordinary. The painting by Nayden Petkov - "Two Women" represents a figural composition, built with the help of oil technique on cardboard. It was created in the mid-1960s. The Bulgarian village and national virtues appear as summarizing images in his work during this period. The work captures the essence of rural life, depicting the rhythm of the seasons and the symbiotic relationship between humanity and the earth. At the center of the artwork are two female figures toiling under the midday sun, depicted in a natural and unforced manner, which reveals the artistic realism of the work. The images of the figures are not typologized. The fields that surround them extend to the horizon, whose saturated earth tones testify to the abundance of the harvest. Linearization and contouring are noticeable in the formation of the forms, and the light application of colors is revealed by the fast brush movements. The color is built with the help of light and soft tones. Not only do the figures occupy a central place in this painting, but so does the earth itself. Through skilled use of perspective by the artist, the viewer is drawn to the landscape, invited to contemplate the beauty and complexity of the natural world. In the entire artwork, fine details hint at the passage of time and the cyclical nature of existence. (AM.)
