oil on paper, 38.5 x 51 cm, signed and dated on the verso, in black, "Ghenie, 2009"

Adrian Ghenie's name is often invoked by the press for his successful sales at auction houses such as Sotheby’s and Christie’s, as well as for the presence of his artworks in the most renowned museums worldwide. For instance, Adrian Ghenie’s most recent solo exhibition was inaugurated on October 11, 2024, at the Albertina Museum in Vienna. Here we find a series of works exploring the influence Expressionist Egon Schiele had on his oeuvre. Ghenie emphasizes that Schiele was part of his intellectual archive, not so much in terms of technique, but especially attitude. A similar approach is also found in series of artworks dedicated to other historical figures, such as Vincent van Gogh or Stéphane Mallarmé. Additionally, the artist's drawings were brought to the public's attention by the solo exhibition at the Isho House in 2023. The artist represented Romania at the Venice Biennale in 2015 with the exhibition "Darwin’s Room", becoming a reference for the emerging generation of artists.
