Although he is deeply concerned with landscape and treats it in a pointillist manner, especially during the Giverny period, when he clearly approaches Monet's impressionism starting with his second solo exhibition (1912), Samuel Mützner will increasingly include characters and genre scenes in his work. Central in his creation will be the feminine presence, followed by representatives of rural life, elderly and children. His strokes begin to take on proportions and to occupy more and more of the board. Carefully painted, the artist's muse sitting on the couch, posing luxuriously and relaxed, slightly leaning back, with her arms raised, invites us to penetrate the intimate universe of his home. The clothing details indicate the social status of the character through the slightly undone blue robe, which lets the open flesh glimpse; or through the elegant shoes, with sharp tips. The cold-warm contrast is incorporated in the bright red color of the armchair and in the shades of intense blue of the stove. Samuel Mützner creates, once again, a true fresco of the 20th-century society, having the female model as leitmotif.
