During his studies, Gheorghe Petrașcu will be noticed by reputable artists such as Nicolae Grigorescu and G.D. Mirea and he will gather enough painting qualities that will consecrate him both on the panels of significant exhibitions and in the history of Romanian art. He will visit, in a unique stylistic confrontation, Egypt as well, but one of his remarkable meetings will occur in Spain, especially in Toledo, where he discovers the grand construction of Alcántara. According to the tradition started by some of the first Romanian easel painters, Petrașcu will also reach Balchik. Thus, we will notice the turmoil of the sea and the waves breaking on the shore dominating the entire work through their grandeur. Whether it's the sea seen from Techirghiol, or the sea viewed from Balchik, the motif becomes recurrent and reiterates the artist's desire to transform his travels into pictorial subjects.
