Gheorghe Dem Teodorescu (1849-1900) was a Romanian folklorist and literary historian, who got his degree in Letters at the Sorbonne University in 1877. The letter dates back to the period of his studies in Paris. The author mentions Al. Odobescu, "directorul teatrelor, cel care a mijlocit ca să viu la Paris" ("manager of theatres, who helped me come to Paris"), who also helped him send this letter. He also writes about the subsidy he received, about his studies, about scenes of his day-to-day life - "Mănânc şi beau bine" ("I eat and drink well") - , about the clothes he had mended, his birthday ball - which only cost him 2 Napoleons. - "Vin bun, joc, cântece la clavir şi din gură n-au lipsit" ("Good wine, piano music and singing did not miss"). He was Minister of Religion and Public Education in the Ioan Em. Florescu government for a short while in 1891, and between 1895 and 1899 he was the head of the "Carol I" University Foundation.
