Princess Elena Bibescu (1855-1902) is considered a great pianist of the 19th century. She studied in Vienna, where she received a medal and an honorary diploma from the Imperial Conservatory. She later studied with the famous Anton Rubinstein, manager of the Russian Imperial Concerts and of the Music Society in Petersburg, and with Marc de la Nux, in Paris. Her music salons in Bucharest and Paris were attended by the most important artists of the time, as well as renowned writers - Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, Ignacy Jan Paderewski, Ambroise Thomas, Camille Saint-Saëns, Claude Debussy, Anton Rubinstein, Sternfeld Heller, Charles Gounod, Anatole France, Marcel Proust. She had a very important role in promoting George Enescu, who considered her a second mother, dedicating her his entire work until Oedipe.
