The French cultural environment contributed significantly to the development of Jules Perahim's creation. A significant part of his works will be exhibited on the Parisian sidelines in the last part of the twentieth century. We cannot discuss the delimitation of Perahim's work into thematic cycles, but we can notice that his characters from the second period of creation lose their human characteristics and tend to lean more towards the demineralization specific to surrealism. The artist creates real visual narratives in which he lays the foundations of a utopian universe. He makes compositions-dreams, lacking a well-defined horizon line and populated with fabulous characters. The spectacle of the cut-out motifs and beings, assigning them arbitrary forms, leads to vast ways of interpreting his works. Whether they have human, animal, or plant valences, his characters become authentic chimerical representations. Perahim works with photographic precision, uses more or less bizarre juxtapositions and images derived from his subconscious. In his works, we meet phantasmagoric characters, included in a utopian universe. Chimeras with eccentric features are placed in an uncertain chronotope, the coordinates of which are known only to the author. We notice this time the mask bearers conveniently placed in a stationary background. Zoomorphic figures borrow human or natural characteristics; especially the protagonist on the right, equipped with four lower limbs, wears an animal mask from the crest of which a small tree emerges undisturbed. The mask is understood this time as a symbol, used in theater, opera or ballet since ancient times. The mask, a vehicle of human allegory, reflects the traditions and customs of a certain culture, thus receiving much deeper meanings.
