The artist will take from the teachings of his German masters, will also stop in the French environment, and will come into contact with the specificity of European art from the beginning of the last century. The urban environment in which he develops will also influence his later creation, with nature appearing more episodically in his work. Driven by his encounters with the great masterpieces of universal art, he will incorporate in his own creation specific techniques, motifs, and processes. Predominantly, the static nature and urban landscape are identified, the motif of the market or bridge, and the predilection for urban crowds. In his portrait gallery appear names like Octavian Goga, Paul Richter or Păstorel Teodoreanu. We will notice an evolution from the portraits made in the academician style, most likely in his Munich period, where he demonstrates a particular attention to the finest details, and to the mature portraits, where the artist dedicates his own plastic language, with the pregnant strokes and vibrant chromatics. In the early 1930s, Hans Eder reaches Balcic, and bewitched by the oriental mystery, he will return here in the middle of the decade. The present work, created about a decade away from the artist's first meeting with Balcic, is noted for the exaltation of the strokes and chromatic vigor. The arid rhythms and the beating sun boldly transpose into the model's flesh, a model that we also find in other works signed by the artist in the same period. The pink dress and turquoise headscarf, the braided tails, and the inert grimace, staring ahead indicate the fearless protagonist, who becomes the main character of a plastic narrative. Predominantly, the pink, blue, and green shades are present, through which the artist distinguishes himself from his generation colleagues, approaching a more daring style, and the confident strokes complete the diaphanous background, finally highlighting the presence of the character.
