Obverse legend:+ M · MATHIE · R · UNGARIE · Obverse description: Circular legend arranged on the edge, between a partially visible pearled outer circle, and an inner linear circle. In the center lies a quartered shield, with a heart shield. The quarters display: four bands, a double cross with anchored arms, two heads of Dalmatian leopards, and a Bohemian rampant lion. The Huniade family's heraldic symbol appears in the heart shield: the raven with a ring in the beak, facing the left. Reverse legend: PATRONA UNGARIE Reverse description: Circular legend arranged on the edge, between a partially visible pearled outer circle, and an inner linear circle. The center features the Virgin on the throne, draped and crowned, holding the Child in her arms. Both figures are haloed and are flanked by the mint's logo. The iconographic elements interrupt the legend in the upper and lower part. Catalog reference: Pohl 221-2; Huzsar 719; Unger 567e. The coin is a valuable historical document, illustrative of the evolution of the monetary system in the second half of the 15th century and the monetary policy promoted during the reign of Matia Corvin. His monetary issues played an important role in stabilizing the circulation of money in the Kingdom of Hungary, being the result of a laborious monetary reform carried out over several years.
