Born in Târgovişte probably in an old boyar family from Muntenia, he reached the court of the French King Louis XIV. Historian Matei Cazacu dedicated a comprehensive study to him in which he talks about the adventurous life of the character ("Dilema Veche", no. 673, January 12-18, 2017).
