Dictators Elena and Nicolae Ceaușescu went on an official visit to the People's Republic of China in June 1971, a moment that was considered decisive in launching a neo Stalinist-type period in Romania. The photograph captures the moment of the Romanian delegation's reception at the Chinese communist government. Spouses Ceaușescu and Ion Gheorghe Maurer frame Chinese Prime Minister Zhou Enlai (Ciu Enlai).
