The "Infante Dom Henrique" Portuguese Order was established in 1960 in memory of Henry the Navigator (1394-1460), a prince, geographer, and navigator, an explorer of the Western and Southern coasts of Africa, inventor of a new type of ship, the caravel. The order in the rank of Grand Cross was awarded to the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Macovescu, in 1976. The set made up of a cross, plaque, scarf, lapel insignia and rosette, is kept in the original box, together with the authorization issued by the State Council of the People's Republic of Romania, which awarded its holder the right to wear the order.
