The Order of Merit is one of the most important decorations of the Federal Republic of Germany. The accolade, in the rank of Grand Cross with Star, belonged to the former Minister of Foreign Affairs, George Macovescu (1972-1978). The main piece, the insignia, and the rosette are made of gold-plated silver and enamel, and they are kept in the original box. Also, the box contains the authorization issued by the State Council of the Socialist Republic of Romania, which awarded its holder the right to wear the decoration in the country.
