The present work is part of that period of time after the end of World War I, when Sion traveled through the country, driven by the desire to accumulate. His stay consisted of several stages, from the itinerary made with Camil Ressu, with whom he painted for two years, around Brașov and the Meridional Carpathians, until the discovery of sub-Carpathian areas, especially around Curtea de Argeș. In the new geo-political and social context, that of Great Romania, the need for nationalist searches became indispensable, and Sion promptly responded to the "new order." He presents himself as a more obedient artist, classicising as regards shape and strongly nationalist as regards content. Narrative works, illustrating scenes from the peasants’ life, rewrite the utopia of 1848 in the interwar period, nuancing it according to the spirit of the time. The series of paintings with a Romanian subject, which we can integrate in the cycle "compositions with Romanian motifs", form a revelatory stage, both from a thematic and a stylistic standpoint.
