A significant period for Elisaveta Konsulova-Vazova, in which her creative potential and artistic signature clearly stand out, is during her stay in Prague between 1927 and 1933. From this time date some of the most painterly works influenced by Impressionism—portraits of her daughters Elka and Binka Vazova, the double portrait of the singer Hristina Morfova and Lyudmila Prokopova, as well as the rich collection of floral still lifes, a genre particularly favoured by Konsulova. The presented work Chrysanthemums is representative of the artist’s still lifes from her stay in Prague. The bright colours of the flowers, which contrast with the dark background of the painting, are a typical device used by Konsulova in the late 1920s. During her stay in Czechoslovakia, Elisaveta held an exhibition in Prague in 1931, and in Plzeň and Bratislava in 1932, where: “Her works were well received and highly appreciated by the Czechoslovak public and critics.” Collectors as well as the State Museum in Bratislava acquired her paintings, which is further evidence of the recognition that Elisaveta Konsulova-Vazova’s work received from the European public.
