In 1969, Christo and Jean-Claude arrived in Sydney, Australia with 90,000 sq.m. vinyl, 56 km of polypropylene rope and more than 100 workers and volunteers, with the ambitious task of turning the Little Island into a colossal work of art - the largest monumental work of art. The legacy of the work is significant in influencing the course of contemporary art history in Australia and inspiring a whole movement of conceptual and avant-garde artists creating post-object, ephemeral works.
