Gustav Klingert, originally from Germany, began his career working as a master for Fabergé. In 1865, he founded his own factory in Moscow, employing over 200 artisans. In 1889 he exhibited at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where his works received honorable mentions. Four years later, at the World's Fair in Chicago, Klingert was described as one of the most important companies in Russia. Because of its high popularity, the company began to export its goods to the United States through Tiffany & Co. In 1896, Gustav Klingert received the imperial mandate. Kilgert's silver pieces often featured complex patterns, including elements of Art Nouveau and Russian Renaissance styles, and he was renowned for his ability to create both decorative and functional items, such as tableware, serving sets and ceremonial objects. His pieces were highly valued for their craftsmanship and elegance, and he became highly respected in Russian jewelry circles of his time. Gustav Kilgert and his work in the Russian silver industry remain a testament to the fusion of European and Russian artistic traditions at the beginning of the 20th century. His legacy endures through the fine quality of his silverware, which continues to be admired by collectors and museums today.
