The 100 lei gold coin was minted to mark ten years of King Carol II's reign. He had returned abruptly to the country, following a five-year exile, on June 6, 1930. He had the support of the leaders of the National Peasant Party, especially Iuliu Maniu, who he promised political assistance to diminish the influence of the National Liberal Party. On June 8, Carol II was proclaimed king by Parliament, thus deposing the minor king Mihai. The coin is part of a set of six pieces with different values. It is made of 90% gold and 10% copper, with a serrated edge and a diameter of 21 mm. On the obverse, the portrait of the king in profile is framed by a laurel wreath at the center. Above it, there is the legend "Carol II" and below, the mention "King of the Romanians". The reverse is richly decorated, in the center there is the royal crown and the king's monogram, and beneath them, the legend “Romania/June 8, 1930/June 8, 1940/100 lei”. The central design is bounded by a crown of thorns tied at the bottom with a ribbon bearing the motto "Nihil Sine Deo". The piece has exceptional details, shiny mint luster, showing small signs of handling. There is some alteration in a small section of the edge. The specimen represents an exceptional collector's piece, notable for its rarity. A similar piece was awarded with 72,000 EUR at the Nomisma auction house in 2023.
