11. Spatial Venus

A recurring theme in Dali's work, Venus will constantly appear in his works, in different forms and under the auspices of various themes. Raising the woman to the rank of art and placing her on his pedestal, Salvador Dali surprises again, this time with his specific way of interpretation, an apparently banal motif in a surrealist manner. We observe, therefore, the female torso into which the artist inserts surreal elements. We note the division of the body into two distinct parts, which however remain interconnected. We gradually discover some elements specific to Dali and implicitly surrealism. On top, we encounter the melting clock and the theme of time dilation. Spread over the neck deprived of skull, the clock reveals the ephemerality of beauty, exposing us to the opposite pole where art is situated, which will not be limited in time, but will become part of eternity. The absence of the clock hands or the absence of all the numbers that should adorn the dial reveal the insignificance of time in the world of dreams. The concept of time thus loses its meaning in the subconscious. Going down on the protagonist's torso, we distinguish the presence of ants making their way on the fragmented body, stopping first on the abdomen and later reaching the lower part. The fascination for ants can be identified in the artist's childhood, when he looked captivated, with repulsion and equal fascination, at the natural course of nature. The lower part of the body is crowned with the presence of an egg, a favorite theme of Dali. The duality of this element (hard exterior, soft interior) reveals to us a symbol of life, rebirth and continuity. The fragmentation of the body is therefore not coincidental, it reveals to us, at the meeting point of the two halves, the very symbol of life (the egg).
