8. Cadillac Fleetwood Long, 1979, the former protocol car of the Chinese Embassy in Belgium

Cadillac was born out after the closure of Henry Ford company when Henry Ford left with some of his key partners and the company was dissolved. With the intention of liquidating the company's assets, the financiers who remained after Ford's departure, William Murphy and Lemuel Bowen, called in engineer Henry M. Leland from Leland & Faulconer Manufacturing Company to evaluate the facilities and equipment before selling them. Instead, Leland convinced them to continue the car manufacturing business and offered to equip the cars with a single-cylinder engine designed by Leland. The company needed a new name after Henry Ford left. On August 22, 1902, the company was renamed Cadillac Automobile Company. Leland & Faulconer Production and Cadillac Automobile Company merged in 1905. The Cadillac Automobile Company was named after the seventeenth-century French explorer Antoine Laumet de la Mothe, Sieur de Cadillac, who founded Detroit in 1701. The first Cadillac, the Cadillac Runabout and Tonneau, was completed in October 1902. This was a 10-horsepower (7 kW) two-seater car with a single-cylinder engine. It was practically identical to the 1903 Ford Model A. The first car seems to have left the factory in mid-October. The new Cadillac was unveiled at the New York Motor Show in January the following year and impressed the crowd enough to gather over 2.000 firm orders. From its earliest years, Cadillac has focused on high-quality technology and luxury finishes, ranking its cars among the best and most elegant in the United States. The use of interchangeable parts was an important innovation of the company in 1908. Cadillac was also the first manufacturer of a fully enclosed car in 1906, and in 1912 it was the first to incorporate an electric system in its cars to start, ignite and illuminate. Cadillac Fleetwood is a luxury model manufactured by the Cadillac General Motors division between 1976 and 1996. The name "Fleetwood" was previously used as a prefix on several Cadillac models dating back to 1935. The "Fleetwood" model generally had longer wheelbase than the Cadillac 62 and DeVille series.
