Obverse legend: DN IVSTINI - ANVS PP AVC Obverse description: In the center, the Emperor's bust is depicted facing forward with a diadem with pendilia, wearing a platoșă and paludamentum. In his right hand he holds a globus cruciger, and in his left hand is a partially visible cavalier shield. Reverse legend: VICTORI - AAV CCC - B / CONOB Reverse description: An angel standing, draped, depicted frontally, holding a cross in his right hand, and a globus cruciger in his left hand Catalog Reference: W. Hahn, 2000, Money of the Incipient Byzantine Empire (Anastasius I-Justinian I, 491-565), Vienna, no. 22. This is a relatively rare numismatic issue in the context of the current market, even though, compared to the entire Byzantine gold emissions, the solidi minted under the reign of Justinian I — especially the types with the personification of Constantinople on the reverse or the depiction of an angel — are among the most frequently found in discoveries and collections. However, an analysis of public sales over the past approximately fifteen years indicates that, in practice, just a few dozen examples have been identified for each of these series.
