Leon Vreme was remarked in the history of Romanian art as an experimentalist artist, who valued masterfully the surface of the canvas in both figurative and abstract work. The first period is linked to the pictorial manner of post-impressionist origin, by which the artist reiterates the beauty of the native lands and cityscapes of the Dobrogea area. The second period, however, is matched by a constructivist manner that will eventually converge towards abstract art. The rational expressiveness that governs his work refers, in its schematism, to the native blue of the sea and the Dobrogea area. For Leon Vreme, it is not the theme that matters, but the creation itself. Surface and matter become the protagonists of a work marked by the dynamism, intensity and poetics of light. The allusive tones, which are subscribed to the curved lines charged with vital tensions, recreate the formal condition of the artist's painting as a way of expressing his deep inner states.
