Appearing posthumously and evolving to a mythical level thanks to its precious pictorial quality, of an unusual sensitivity, artist Țuculescu would become a path opener for Romanian art, creating in a transfigured alphabet of his own - qualities thanks to which the artist earned a well-deserved place in contemporary art. Having emerged as an artist in the late 1930s - a time when art felt stiff, evolving in somehow infertile directions, no longer producing fresh works - Ion Țuculescu brought a new spirit, feeling the painting process differently, and expressing it in pure plastic values. During the inertia describing Romanian art at that time, when artists seemed to have nothing left to say, displaying the same usual canvases, our artist made an appearance, managing to stand out of the crowd and break the current patterns. The main movable in the first steps of his artistic path would be Fauvism - an artistic movement revealed in 20th Century France and characterised by the use of pure colour, creating the colour explosion effect - which the artist would transpose into his own formulae. Apart from fauvism, his creation would also approach expressionism, illustrated by Țuculescu using a raw colour palette and a force of the primitive instinct, encouraging him to work uninterruptedly. Two ulterior periods of time of a particular importance for his creation would be the folkloric era (1947-1955), an era of stylisation and transfiguration, followed by a totemic and symbolic era (1956-1962). The totemic and symbolic era, which, after all, was the last creation period of creation for Țuculescu, was bound to represent his beginnings, as well as his continuity in an abstract universe - which was nothing less than a coincidence of his own researches. Hence, the vitality of his vision led him to new expressions, where the ancient and the modern, as well as tradition and universality, were bound to join forces. Elements such as the totem pole, the eyes, the butterflies - which were also previously present in his creation, would keep standing out during this last period as well, under the reign of symbolism, and would acquire fundamental values. Consequently, his works would bring about new meanings, expressed with unusual plastic images, where the colours red, yellow, green, blue, purple, created dynamic compositions, with grey coloured passages, executed in rough lines, often massively emphasized in black. A true exaltation of colour, taken to the limits of delirium, revived and transfigured by the self-taught artist, who, using a broad range of colours, managed to cultivate a symbolic poetry, where style and expressiveness were bound to find their own path. Featured within some important exhibitions, such as the 1967 Retrospective Exhibition, as well as later on, in 1999, within the Retrospective Exhibition at the National Art Museum, the work "Lansare în roșu" ("Launching in Red"), depicts artist Țuculescu's impetuous temper, which gave birth to strong and original creations, evoking realities beyond the anecdote and beyond the usual descriptive, with an instinct which, to this day, does not cease to amaze.
