The type of red known as "beef blood" is distinguished by a uniform coral-red glossy tone and a low copper content. The end effect of the "colour splashes" glazes was initially and correctly referred to in Chinese as "yao-bin", i.e. "transmutation of the oven" or "change of colour in the oven". The powdered effects or better "splashed effects" in the decades after the eighteenth century and especially during the Qianglong reign (1736-1795), have been improved by covering the biscuit with generous and uneven layers of other minerals (and other metallic pigments except copper). All these processes and the special attention paid to the pots bearing this type of glaze have determined, among the nobility, an extremely high demand for this type of objects. At Christie’s, a similar pot was estimated at 30,000 $ - 50,000 $ and was awarded 106,250 $ in March 2018.
