"I was born in the ranger’s forest, between two slopes, where a valley was flowing. This valley separates Alba county from Sibiu county (...) I would search for bird nests or game in the forest. I always had a wide perspective from this slope, which was very high. I could see, at great distance, a railway along the Târnava Mare river, and the train seemed to be a toy; sitting at these heights, I probably saw the world in a wide view. This impressed itself very strongly and remained in my vision, a panoramic vision, a look from a distance and a look up. (...)". Subordinated to this panoramic view, Viorel Mărginean is the painter of spatial depths, of out of gear perspectives, which are exaggerated for the eye of the urban routine. In his work named "Avram Iancu’s House", Mărginean manages to go back in time, at the start of the 19th century, to the home of the Transylvanian revolutionary, which now bears his name, the Avram Iancu commune, Incești street. The trees in the background, represented by geometric motifs from the traditional repertoire, remind of old tree barks. Fundamental motifs, which transform the landscape into a writing of the Romanian nation. Mărginean does not take into account the perspective structuring rules, he sees everything from above, from far and wide, a fairy tale of the postmodern landscape. Mărginean does not resort to colour tricks and the plane shades, whether warm or cold, strengthen the idea of Transylvanian timelessness, that of "beyond the forest", where the tiny house where Avram Iancu was born and raised as a child can be seen. In fact, the painter allows the viewer to draw the landscape near, to be transposed in the middle of the created universe. Looking at the painting, the atmosphere envelops you, which explains the apparent absence of man from the landscape as, in fact, this is the viewer, the spectator of an eternal scene.
