He spends a lot of time studying human psychology, hence succeeding in sketching more than just his models' features. The period of time he spent studying in the Bavarian capital helped him cultivate the theoretic concepts, and to explore in depth the drawing technique he uses. In Paris, he would direct himself mainly towards the study of composition, learning from Impressionists how to better develop the lighting plans on canvas, and how to better harness the chromatic palette. He draws inspiration from his teacher's works, yet he does not imitate, and instead he rises to fame through his own pictorial style. The Realism to which Steriadi aspires grants him the successor status for painters such as Grigorescu, Andreescu or Luchian. Although broad and varied from the genres and themes point of view, his creation would always remain unitary. Steriadi is a fine observer of the surrounding world, as well as a patriot and a lover of traditions. The landscapes are inspired by city life, notably the turmoil of harbours. Starting from 1900, his creation devotedly depicts marine landscapes as well as Danube harbours; the promenades, the shores, the endless spreads of blue, the sailing ships or the boats. In 1905, upon his return home from his studies abroad, he opens the first personal exhibition. The works exhibited here sell very well, and consequently Steriadi would be able to afford a series of journeys abroad, with the main purpose to illustrate his canvases with the landscapes he notices along the way. The artist pays high attention to details and carefully matches the chromatic connections. Yet sometimes all he needs is a few lines to describe the turmoil of the shores in the Danube or Black Sea landscapes.
