The design of the Celaberd rugs is often associated to the Chalabilar village from Karabagh. They are also named Sunburst Kasak or Eagle Kazak. The design is similar to Saint Joseph’s cross, which provides a hint regarding the Christian religion of the Armenians who manufacture them. What is known in the West under the name "crab" wreaths in the main border is, in fact, traditional in the Eagle Kazak rugs and in other Karabagh rugs. Most likely, they were initially intended to represents rays of sun, originating from the Zoroastrian religion specific to this area.
