Alexandru Tzigara-Samurcaș (1872-1952) was an art historian and corresponding member (1938) of the Romanian Academy. He had an important role in Romanian museology and museography (head of the Museum of Ethnography, National Art, Decorative and Industrial Art, which became the Carol I Museum of National Art in 1915). He was an art history professor in Bucharest and Chernivtsi, Police Prefect of the Capital, editor for the magazine "Convorbiri literare" (1924), and participated in numerous national and international exhibitions.
