Description

Corneliu Michailescu was one of the most significant names that activated in the area of the Romanian avant-garde being, for over 15 years, a promoter of cubism and of constructivism. Having been educated in Bucharest, in contact with the modern Italian school, as well as with the French school, the painter created an endless universe where the line, the geometrical, as well as the surrealist vision coordinated unique works of art, in painting, as well as in graphic arts and sculpture. In the latter half of his life he isolated himself from the Romanian artistic environments, and his return to painting was restricted by the Communist restrictions.
