Issued to celebrate the conquest of the city of Timișoara and the end of Ottoman domination over Banat, the medal serves as an artistic and historical testimony to one of the decisive moments in the evolution of Transylvania and Central Europe at the beginning of the 18th century. The piece was crafted in Nuremberg by the engraver Georg Wilhelm Vestner, one of the most important German medalists of the Baroque era. The type is known in specialized literature under references Julius 1269; Resch 130; BDM VI, p. 254. The obverse features the laureate bust of Emperor Charles VI, facing right, depicted with a full wig and garments of a classical style. Beneath the bust appears the engraver’s signature, V. The legend reads CAROLVS VI · D · G · ROM · IMP · SEMP · AVG ·, translated into Romanian as “Charles VI, by the grace of God, Emperor of the Romans, ever august.” The portrait transcends the function of a simple official effigy.
