The pictorial genius approached by Ștefan Câlția adheres to the realistic-fantastic area. The artist takes over the image storyteller role and assigns his painting a narrative function. The inclination towards values, traditions and divinity is sometimes transposed into one of his preferred themes: the flight. Ștefan Câlția transposes signs, lines and shapes into stories. He creates an actual literature of ink on paper and suggests a new pictorial approach. He assigns his characters a key spot on canvas, allowing them to float in an infinite universe. He draws his inspiration from the histories built by Pieter Bruegel, as well as from the complex compositions signed by Hieronymus Bosch. In the current work, he places a small-size humanized character in an extended space. The main character is captured with his feet detached from the ground, rising towards the celestial universe. The flight is distinguished here as the metaphysical into which the floating character becomes initiated. The flight represents both the search for freedom, as well as one's release from a specific circumstance. Câlția's protagonists rise from the ground, hypnotised by the promise of a biased perspective.
