In Alexandru Ciucurencu's artistic career there are several important stages, marked by the masters under whose guidance Ciucurencu studied at key moments of his development. His apprenticeship in the workshop of Mihail Paraschiv, a church painter, helped him learn the science of line and colour matching. At the School of Fine Arts in Bucharest, his plastic language was particularly shaped by Camil Ressu, under the guidance of whom he masters techniques to suggest relief and shapes. During the summers at the School in Baia Mare, took place the first meeting of the artist with the violent colours which become later a mark of his personal style. But Ciucurencu's trip to Paris and his meeting with André Lhote will prove to be the defining moment in his training. He will learn from him the three fundamental means of plastic expression: line, colour and value. France's capital city will be the perfect place for him to visit famous museums, where he will discover Boticelli, Hieronymus Bosch and Peter Brueghel the Elder. Ciucurencu will be inspired, however, by Matisse's way of combining cold and warm tones and his way of rendering luminosity, but also by the cubist techniques proposed by Cézanne. The master's workshop from Paris favours the discovery of a suitable climate to Ciucurencu's artistic development. From the dark and monochrome palette from the study years, he gets a much brighter and more vivid colour chromatic. He will also assimilate, from Romanian artists such as Pallady, Tonitza and Petrașcu, the understanding of the painting as a message of artistic emotion. Under the richness of pictorial techniques, he will study, Ciucurencu will succeed, at the middle of the last century, to define his personal style.
