Vincențiu Grigorescu is one of those artists who experienced three political regimes: he was born under the Kingdom, he experienced the war and the installation of Communism, and then followed the way of the exile after 197, becoming acquainted with the expression of freedom. It is, therefore, a Romanian destiny, which managed to circumvent from Socialist culture before it was marked in the cultural-artistic expressions of the time. On the one hand, we are talking of a physical circumvention, occurring with the way of the exile, and, on the other hand, of a spiritual refuge, as he refused to create in the manner specific to the Proletarian Culture imposed by the party. First displayed at Brussels in 1974, this work is part of a series of painting-tapestries, inviting the viewer to contemplation and spiritual refuge. Both refined and solid, Vincențiu Grigorescu’s tapestries are elaborately crafted, almost scientifically. Honest and intense, the works in this series evince superpositions of colour layers, especially black or white, line modulations, successive flows of ink. Some works of the artist are in public collections, such as the one from the National Museum of Contemporary Art from Bucharest; The Gallery of Modern Art from Turin; CAMeC, La Spezia.
