Research information

"Dimitar Dobrovich is one of the first Bulgarian artists to receive an academic art education. His work includes portraits, everyday scenes, miniatures and religious subjects, distinguished by a clear construction and academic expressiveness. Dobrovich showed a particular interest in religious themes, which we also find in the work "Archangel Gabriel". After his return to Bulgaria in 1893, the artist became actively involved in the artistic life of the country. Although his painting is influenced by European art of the 19th century, his work occupies an important place in the history of Bulgarian art. (K.S.) "
