Yordan Katsamunski is an author with a very recognizable painting style. He works mainly in the genre of still life, composition and rarely in landscape. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Belgrade in 1971. After returning to Bulgaria, he actively participated in the artistic life with solo exhibitions in Sofia and Pleven. There is a strong kinship and stylistic connection between Yordan Katsamunski and Svetlin Rusev. The unifying line between them is mainly in terms of the monochrome range, the large format and the overall construction of the aerial environment in the canvas. Characteristic elements in his compositions are female images, vases with flowers and trees. The painting "Flowers in White" is emblematic of the work of Yordan Katsamunski. It presents a vase with white flowers that occupy the entire format of the canvas, forming a mosaic of ethereal whites, light ocher and gray tones. The picture is immersed in a complete harmonious range, which lacks clear images, constructions and local tones. The painting is refined, thoughtful and calm. The aesthetics in Yordan Katsamunski's paintings is what sets him apart and makes his style distinctive. His canvases lack the daily noise of modern man. In his still lifes with flowers, streets and portraits, time is frozen in a calm moment in a bright but minor atmosphere. "Flowers in White" can be counted among the highest achievements in the work of Yordan Katsamunski. (S.N.)
