The painting "Orange Houses" is emblematic of Genko Genkov's late work from the second half of the 1980s. It refers to high achievement in the entire work of the artist. Genko Genkov graduated from the painting specialty at the Art Academy in Sofia In the class of Prof. Dechko Uzunov. He works mainly in the landscape genre. He is an author with markedly individual style and vivid presence in the national plastic arts culture from the second half of the twentieth century. In the early works of the late 1950s and early 1960s his paintings are delicate and chamber. In the following decades Genko Genkov creates landscape compositions in bright color combinations. The construction of the forms through expressive outline, dramatic stroke, conditional and synthetic form is characteristic for the mature work of the artist. The canvas "Orange Houses" has all the characteristic marks of the mature period, namely: a plot involving a natural landscape and architectural elements; colorful range, built on the principle of the contrast between warm orange and cold violet and umbra; dynamically laid invoice with varying degrees of pasty layering of
the paint. As a complete color and plastic construction, we can categorize the painting The "Orange Houses" are among the most characteristic works of Genko Genkov's style. (S.N.)
