89. Yellow Sky [1995]

In his works, the artist masterfully combines the fantastic and the daily life, the usual and the extraordinary, the real and the unreal. localised at a crossroads with surrealism, this artistic movement draws his lifeblood from Northern Renaissance. Ștefan Câlția creates true pictorial poems by using a special grammar of plastic signs. The preferred theme for his works - the journey, appears illustrated differently each time. In the hereby case, we can talk about the journey seen as a path to initiation. localised in a fantastic dimension, with a seemingly endless pathway, with a parched tree, lacking branches, as well as an ochre sky, announcing that we are about to cross the line into another land, Câlția's path invites the observer to a metaphysical journey, at the end of which he can experience his own epiphany. The symbolic journeys which the artist proposed throughout time can be easily identified in most of his works. Whether we talk about flight and the characters rising to the sky, whether we talk about houses, roads or paths, Ștefan Câlția's works invite us to approach the pictorial narrative from a totally different perspective.
