During his apprenticeship under the wing of the painter Mihail Paraschiv, Ciucurencu learns how to match colours and how to play with lines. His study years in Paris pique his interest in Matisse, whom he would also use as a source of inspiration for using lines and colours in his own work. "Poet al priveliștilor românești" ("A poet of Romanian landscapes"), as Dan Grigore calls him in the dedicated volume, Ciucurencu creates a landscape rife with lyricism, where his brushwork intuition imbues the viewer with vibrant colours. The depiction of lines in the artist’s works appears precise and strong. The line acquires a sense of fine semiotics, harmoniously interblending with colour hues emerging from the tranquil landscapes. Ciucurencu never exceeds the declamation limits, but abstemiously stays within the compositional bounds imposed he himself imposed. He uses and shapes colour to suggest distinctive planes, but also the depth of space and of the rendered objects. In "Peisaj din București" (Bucharest Landscape); bright colour and strong or pastel accents coexist in perfect harmony with the lines drawn in shades of black, which define more than a simple outline of the rendered objects.
