A representative of the Romanian Interbellum painting, Theodor Pallady is the creator of a profound work, where intimacy can be penetrated with recollection and concentration. The universe of his art will encompass the sphere of the intimate environment, of a life full of meaning, tending towards arrangements of an alien effect compared to opulent structures, thus configuring a world of spiritualized beauty. By approaching a reduced thematic number - landscapes, nudes, interiors, still life, self-portraits or flowers, the artist will enrich his creation with new emotions, present in the way objects are displayed, in the balance of shapes or in the rhythm of colours. Together with nudes, still life paintings will represent a consistent part of his work, being one of the genres that correspond to his spirit, and which gives him a total freedom regarding the manner of construction and synthesis. Although modest, his props will be transfigured into a symphony of meanings, rhythms and colours, the real subject of an interior composition being his poetics, revealed through expressions, intensities and harmonies. Flowers are often noticed in the still life ambiance, in addition to the indispensable objects. Being of different species and shades - tulips, chrysanthemums, crocuses, violas, zinnia, elderflowers, daffodils - they participate in the creation of complex compositions where the mundane, the intimate and the familiar reveal their mystery. Included in the exhibition "Omagiu lui Theodor Pallady" ("Tribute to Theodor Pallady"), which took place at the Art Museum of the Socialist Republic of Romania, between December 1971 and February 1972, the work "Still Life with ulcior și ciuperci" ("Still Life with Jug and Mushrooms") (col. prof. univ. I. L. Georgescu) represents another example of freedom, expressed by the artist who seeks out construction and synthesis to create a certain order and balance, built on rhythm and correspondence. The tribute exhibition, organized on the occasion of the 100 years' anniversary of Pallady's birth, showed the Romanian public a remarkable and homogenous work, covering over 50 years of creation.
