Among the most renown landscapes, except for those painted in Romania, those set in Venice and the Parisian angles seem to be Corneliu Baba's favourites. He always chooses difficult angles, where the picturesque has the smallest possible importance, while the details are offered to us by the artist's paintbrush. The preference for less revealing views is caused precisely by the abundance of motifs in the depicted place. Certainly, the image of a Venetian canal or of the Seine offer an instant, already composed and painted, visual delight. To protect the image from the danger of the picturesque is not meant to be an answer to the Realist Interbellum art, where we can find eloquent images by Pallady or Petrașcu - featuring Parisian landscapes for the former, or the famous Venetian views for the latter. Baba's inclination towards an intimate vision is caused by that dramatic tendency which moulds his entire thematic universe. If, in the case of the Venetian views, this quality is far more obvious in the plastic reproduction, in the case of the Parisian angles, Baba translates this psychological aura using fine chromatic interrogatives.
