Considered a descendant of painters who had a particular interest in color in Romanian painting, such as Luchian, Ressu or Pallady, Alexandru Ciucurencu's painting is distinguished by its distinctive and bright color that marks his entire creation, often painting still lifes, nudes, and landscapes. "Art, which is for all people, lives. The one that addresses a limited number of people, disappears with them," the artist would say about his painting. Alexandru Ciucurencu's expressive force was on display in front of the easel, updating his artistic belief with every canvas created. He was the one who toned down and tempered the excesses of post-war painting, his painting starting from sensation. Ciucurencu often started with a simple color that impressed his retina and used it obsessively, until exhaustion. In the early '60s, Ciucurencu began to change his working technique in a simplified direction, becoming majestic and calm. First, the artist reduces the color palette to a few basic colors that he uses in a variety of tones and semitones. The colors no longer shape the form, but two-dimensionality is entirely suggested by lines. The outlines melt into fine lines, giving a certain animation effect to the frame elements. The artist returns to roots through chromatic synthesis, through exacerbated purism. Covered by the dizzying turmoil of the century, Ciucurencu is dedicated to dizzying changes. The landscape in the artist's creation is a matter of rhythm and chromatic value, attributing lyrical values to landscapes. The painter had a sense of color harmony, which we can also notice in this work. The colors of the depicted landscape mark subtle transitions, which are layered in remarkable tonal gradations. The black line, which roughly outlines the volumes, reminds us of Dufy's painting, and the remnants of the space are represented through undertones of gray, revealing through a play of lights, what has remained hidden from the snow. The present work "Landscape from Bucharest" is an authentic representation from the artist's studio that he had arranged on Kiseleff road. Master Ciucurencu had a panoramic view of the Triumphal Arch, which he authentically depicted on his canvas. The chromatic chords in Alexandru Ciucurencu's work follow post-impressionist evolution, thus, he filters the landscape down to its essence. In his art, we find balance and an omnipresent feeling of order.
