Описание
Volkers' career is primarily tied to his native country, Germany, but his interest in animalistic and military painting brings him close to many princely houses of the Central European space. Educated at the Fine Art Academy in Dresden, with professors Ritsche and Julius Schnorr von Carolsfeld, the artist will finalize his lessons in Munich, at the Fine Arts Academy, with professor Albrecht Adam. Adam was responsible for the style and theme later molded by Emil Volkers – the cavalry themes, the artillery, or the painting of horses. Even though Volkers was still a relatively young painter, his notoriety would make him known to the great German princely families, so that he came into contact with the Hohenzollern family, who would recommend him to the European noble houses. Thus, Emil Volkers becomes one of the first propaganda painters in the Romanian Principalities, being invited by Carol to accompany him on the Romanian itinerary, to immortalize the initiatory journey of the young prince. Painter and lithographer Emil Volkers has left several interesting works about picturesque rural life, but also important testimonies through representations of the Romanian peasant. He specializes in animalistic painting, but gives way to interest in the novelty of aspects felt as picturesque, of rural life or at least which remain to figure only as a helper element, when the painter represents the life of the peasants. Born reporter, concerned to render as truthfully. Like Henri Trenk, introduces the landscape as a helper element in his works, is attentive to details and knows how to render the costumes of the peasants in the Arges area, uses perspective, but also chromatics for dynamics and composition.
