Obverse legend: STEP▪D▪G▪REX▪PO▪D▪L Obverse description: In the centre, the bust of King Stephen Bathory with a short beard, wearing a modern closed crown, ornamented with globules and fleur-de-lis elements. He is dressed in a cuirass, with only the upper part visible. Reverse legend: III / 15 - 86 / GR - OS / ARG ▪ TRIP▪ / CIVI ▪ RI ▪ / +GE+ Reverse description: Legend arranged linearly on six rows. The second and third rows are interrupted by the representation of a city gate (Riga), with a frontal depiction of a lion's head at the entrance and in the upper part, two crossed keys surmounted by a cross (the blazon of the city Riga). At the top, two stylized lily flowers. Catalog reference: Parchimowicz-Brzeziński 221.a2. This is an illustrative piece for the monetary activity of the Polish-Lithuanian commonwealth, which will become in terms of iconography and metrology the basic emission of the monetary system during the reign of King Sigismund III Vasa.
