Описание

Arthur Segal is today seen as a product of European culture, with territorial borders surpassed by the artist himself, who was active successfully in Romania, Germany, Switzerland, and England. He was attracted to the most pertinent currents of his time. Influenced by Impressionism and Post-Impressionism, he aligned himself with German Secessionism, was an Expressionist, and also flirted with Dadaist theories. Alongside his artistic creation, he exercised his talent as a painting theorist, being a very successful teacher. In the later part of his career, after settling permanently in England (1936), the painter dedicated himself extensively to an educational career, opening a new art school. The "School of Painting for Professionals and Non-Professionals," opened in July 1937 in London, became the first school in the world to approach painting as a method of psychotherapy, supported by recommendation letters signed by Sigmund Freud, Ernest Jones, Ernst Simmel, Franz Alexander, John Rickman, Henry Dicks, Mary Chadwick, Mary Barkas, and others. Active in London and Oxford, Segal continued to teach and paint alongside his students until his death in 1944, managing to sustain his activity throughout the entire period of World War II.
